Online Workshop

About the event

Join an online space where you reconnect with your body by starting with breath, getting rid of tensions and exploring bodily awareness. Expect to be facilitated to explore movement and devising exercises and set free your unique movement improvisations. You’ll then find imageries from your life experiences and express feelings with bodily expression. Learn useful tools to help you move freely, express, improvise and replenish.

Influenced by Life/Art Process from pioneer movement practitioner and director Anna Halprin, the facilitator Qingyang will lead the workshop with unique approaches deriving from her movement and performance practice working with autobiographical materials. Echoing with Anna Halprin's philosophy Dance as a Healing Art, Qingyang draws on her performance-making process with creative healing energy to facilitate a workshop of movement improvisation to help you relax, explore, release and express.

Suitable for all levels of creative experience. You do not need a movement/dance background to join this workshop. In fact, we move in all different sorts of ways and inspire each other because of that. A detailed guide with handy tips to help you fully enjoy this online workshop will be sent to your mailbox prior to the event. So don't worry, we've got your back. There will also be time for discussion at the end of a practice-based session.

*Please note whilst the workshop explores movement and creative tools proved beneficial for our wellbeing, this is not a psychotherapy session.

For this ONLINE workshop you will need a tiny space to move in, e.g. your room as well as papers and pens (colours if you'd like). Comfortable clothing and a private and quiet space are suggested. You can bring a yoga mat or something to lie on, if you have one but that's not necessary.

This workshop is facilitated by Qingyang Wang, whose recent movement practice has a focus on spontaneity and individual expression. Qingyang is an actor, theatre maker and writer, having performed and made works in the UK and in China. Holding an MA Theatre Practice from the University of Exeter, her performance practice has been influenced by various movement-based and intercultural approaches.  Her current performance Journey of Whispering Dreams, a blending of poetic text, physical movement, soundscape and Chinese Classical dance, premiered as part of FUSE International in July 2023. Journey of Whispering Dreams is about a healing journey that went far away from hometown, carrying pieces of cultural memories while travelling through different surroundings of life, nature and imagination. The piece is a result of a long-term process of material collection, improvisation, movement work and devising.

Testimony of this workshop:

‘It’s a wonderful feeling to explore the body through the images and pictures constructed by yourself. Especially when revisiting the images, combined with the space you are in at the moment, you move between some kind of reality and imagination and feel that there are many possibilities.’ – Sabrina
