About the event

*A bit about the story of this workshop…

Creative Me was the first online Devising workshop Alice led with Waterway beginning of last year, with a focus on individual creativity. Thereafter in the summer, the workshop returned to recognise the precious energy that surrounds and encourages us over the online space – a collaborative one, hence the birth of Devising with Collaborative Energy. The workshop then went on to become one of Waterway’s star workshops, returning with new sessions from time to time. Now, the great news is – Devising with Collaborative Energy is going monthly!

In the session in December 2023 before the festive season (blog here), prompts and inspirations emerging through the exercises were taken as gifts to our creative and learning processes while an additional warmth was formed and felt within a lovely group.

In the workshop February 2024 we connected with our unique space including the everyday objects using movement and group games and started new stories and characters, drawing on the theme of ‘newness’.

The monthly workshop of Devising with Collaborative Energy ONLINE for March 2024 falls on the 18th Monday 1 pm - 2:30 pm UK time. New and old friends are all more than welcome, wherever you are.

These workshops always enable us to benefit from some key tools in Theatre Devising, such as ideation, movement, improvisation, group games, performance making and creative writing… You get to connect with fellow creatives through group warm-ups and games, getting inspired in an encouraging environment balanced with collaborative energy with chances to work on your own materials.

Suitable for:

  • Theatre-makers, performers, movers, creatives, OR those interested in learning about theatre
  • You may be from another creative background such as filmmaking, performing arts, advertising, writing…
  • Or you are just looking to check in with your movement and creativity in a fun supportive group
  • Open to all levels of experience

What to expect in the virtual workshop of March:

We will recap from the exploration of our last session and continue with fresh eyes & a playful approach. Finding stimuli in our everyday space, exploring games using daily projects, group character work, trying new forms and tools of creative writing and theatre tools such as puppetry, we will open up surprising new paths to creativity.

In the 1.5 hour, we will fuse the unique talents and collective creativity of the group, with members meeting at the virtual space from across the UK & internationally.

This workshop will be led by Alice Higginson-Clarke: a theatre-maker, performer & writer who has been a Co-Artistic Director of Scratchworks Theatre Company since it began in 2013. With 10 years' award-winning track record of highly visual and playful theatre, Scratchworks is a physical ensemble of three women blending movement, comedy, live music and imagination to bring a story to life.

Alice is highly praised by the previous partcipants for her excellence in facilitating a relaxing, resourceful and fun group environment where everyone feels supported to explore, create and learn.

We have previously welcomed creatives of all walks and they have found the sessions and practice inspiring and helpful, as well as a great opportunity to make connections in a collaborative group environment.

Testimonies

I loved the way you led us to deep dive into the activities by explaining details in clear instructions. Also, I loved the atmosphere among all of us. It was like we were meeting face-to-face. -- Sooyoung, performing arts teacher

I think the workshop encourages one to tap into the unknown imagination and think of our bodies. Great source of inspiration to create things towards certain new feelings, thoughts, and connections. – Sabrina, filmmaker

I find it very illuminating. Through the workshop I learned to start with daily objects and words to create a piece, expressing it with my body. – June, theatre maker

I was a little nervous when I first joined but then relaxed and felt happy to participate. – Liu, acting student

For this session you will need a piece of paper & pen. A private space is also recommended.
