About the event

Devising with Scratchworks Theatre Company ONLINE

A workshop suitable for all levels of ability, from complete beginners looking to learn more about devising or for those with more experience looking to develop their collaborative practice. Or if you just want to join a creative group, move your body and have some fun from the comfort of your home!

For those who are new to the term, devising is '...a mode of work in which no script –neither written play-text nor performance score – exists prior to the work’s creation by the company... Of course, the creation and the use of text or score often occur at different points within the devising processes...' -- Devising Performance: A Critical History

This interactive zoom session with Scratchworks Theatre Company, focuses on devising & collaboration for those interested in developing their creative practice in a group environment.

We will explore key tools for the devising process including idea generation, improvisation, creative writing & movement. In this 2 hour workshop, we will aim to fuse the unique talents and collective creativity of the group. Zoom will allow us to collaborate with people across the UK & internationally too.

Features:

  • Within the two hours, go through key steps of the devising process to create something from scratch
  • Start with movement, explore bodily awareness and express with your body
  • Connect with fellow participants and artists through group warm-up and games, getting inspired in an encouraging environment balanced with collaborative energy and working on your own materials
  • Have fun and be stimulated by Scratchworks’ signature playful theatre-making vibe!
  • Benefit from Alice’s experienced facilitation and attentive feedback to develop your creative practice

This workshop will be led by Alice Higginson-Clarke: a theatre-maker, performer & writer who has been a Co-Artistic Director of Scratchworks Theatre Company since it began in 2013. What previous participants say:

I think the workshop encourages one to tap into the unknown imagination and thinking of our own bodies. Great source of inspiration to create things towards certain new feelings, thoughts, and connections. – Sabrina, filmmaker

I find it very illuminating. Through the workshop I learned to start with daily objects and words to create a piece, expressing it with my body. – June, theatre maker

I was a little nervous when I first joined but then relaxed and felt happy to participate. – Liu, acting student

For this session you will need a piece of paper & pen. A private space is also recommended.
